Lifetime Achievement Award 2022

The Lifetime Achievement Award honours Canadian Spa Industry Professionals who have made a significant contribution to the Spa Industry in Canada over the course of their career.

This year we are proud to honour the lifetime contribution of Janice Colatruglio.

In Memoriam: Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Janice Colatruglio

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Canadian Spa Industry pioneer, Janice Colatruglio. Janice's impact on the Canadian Spa Industry is immeasurable, and she will be deeply missed by her loved ones, as well as the many spa professionals whose lives she touched.

For over 25 years, Janice was an educator and leader in the Canadian Spa Industry, and received her aesthetic and electrolysis license in late 1970s. Soon after she opened her first Spa, Jan’s Professional Nail and Skincare, which was active for over ten years.

Her influence in Spa and Beauty stretched beyond Canada's borders. Janice was also an Instructor/educator at the European School of Esthetics for 14 years. In 2004, Janice became the director of the Riverstone Spa. She was Instrumental in developing every aspect of the Riverstone Spa program, and was Spa Director up until her retirement in 2018. Under Janice's leadership, Riverstone Spa is considered one of the finest spas in Canada.

Janice's continued emphasis on the importance of natural ingredients, top quality equipment, and keeping wellness and wellbeing as the focus and outcome for all treatments not only influenced Riverstone Spa, but ultimately became a key objective across the entire spa industry in Canada, and globally. In 2010 under Janice’s leadership, the Riverstone Spa was one of the first spas to participate in the Leading Spas of Canada QA pilot program, which became the defining standard of excellence for spas in Canada.

Actively involved in setting policy for the Spa and Wellness Industry in Canada, Janice was one of the founders/organizers of the Manitoba Wellness Professional Network, one of the first organizations to represent the interests of estheticians. Janice sat on the board for 5 years.

Janice was also a representative on the Manitoba Provincial Trade Advisory Committee (PTAC), representing the trade for aestheticians and electrolysis. In 2011 Janice worked with the MBA Apprenticeship and Certification Board to update the estheticians and electrolysis curriculum, making it more relevant and inclusive, and was a member of The Professional Advisory Board for Massage Therapy (PAM) at Roberston College, and was a 2016 recipient of the Canadian Spa & Wellness Education Award in 2016 from Leading Spas of Canada.

On behalf of spa owners and operators across Canada, Leading Spas of Canada is indebted to the leadership, vision, and guidance Janice provided to the spa industry for so many years. Janice's absence will be missed.
